TD Aboriginal Nursing Fund Award – Baccalaureate
I am a member of the Qalipu Mi’kmaq First Nation band and a second year nursing student. I am completing a Bachelor of Nursing degree via the fast track stream at the Western Regional School of Nursing in my hometown of Corner Brook, NL.
I have previously obtained a Master of Public Health and believe this will enable me to approach my nursing care from a “determinants of health” standpoint. I have a strong interest in harm reduction and health promotion initiatives, especially for marginalized populations, and I hope to work with various aboriginal groups by doing locums in northern and remote areas. Once I graduate, I plan to remain and work in rural Newfoundland and Labrador to gain necessary clinical experience in order to be able to do this.
I want to say thank you to the CNF and TD Bank for this scholarship; it means a great deal to me both financially and academically.
