Po-Ting Award
As a kid, my dad who was a single father told me the purpose of living is to make others happy. I cannot think of many other careers that allow your mission to be to bring people joy besides nursing. He is my biggest support and I am his biggest fan, so I have taken those words to heart, and live my life with this in mind. My choice to become a nurse did not come lightly and is a decision I will never regret. I chose to become a nurse due to the profound influence nurses and healthcare professionals have had on my life and the life guidance from my dad. I was hospitalized for just under 1 month when I was 19, and the nurses surrounded my family and me with support. Without the unwavering support and care I received from the dedicated staff at KGH during my most challenging times, I wouldn’t be standing here today. The idea that I could bring this to someone else fills me with hope and makes me eager. Opting for a nursing career allows me to reciprocate that compassionate service to my community in a manner that not everyone has the privilege to do, but everyone has the chance to experience.
