Royal Victoria Alumnae Association Award

I am a final year student of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at McGill University. I remember fearing medical appointments as a child and recall that nurses always helped me feel safer and more comfortable. Once I decided the health care field was for me, it was clear that nursing would best suit my goals and personality. From my first day of nursing school I was hooked!

The many areas of practice available to nurses also attracted me to the profession. My interests include women’s health, global health, and critical care. Completing a clinical placement in the ICU of the Royal Victoria Hospital confirmed my interest in acute care. The high level of critical thinking required suited my intellectual nature and I thrived on the fast-paced environment. Working in the ICU was the best challenge of my nursing journey so far. My hope is to work in critical care in the future.

Nursing is the glue of the health care system and deserves appropriate representation and recognition. Currently, as the Executive Administrator of McGill’s Nursing Undergraduate Society, I help represent nursing students’ interests and promote the nursing profession within the school and at large. I intend to pursue a master’s degree in nursing to help me achieve my goal of providing leadership within the nursing community. Eventually, I wish to become a clinical nurse specialist or a nurse practitioner.

When I am not at school or working part time as a pharmacy lab technician, I enjoy volunteering with the Canadian Red Cross, learning American Sign Language, and playing flag football.
