Kathryn J. Hannah Nursing Informatics Award
I’ve always known I wanted a career in healthcare, partly because I am passionate about helping people, but also because I love learning. Up until the end of my degree in biomedical sciences, I really wasn’t sure what specifically that looked like for me. That is until I spoke to a family friend; As a nurse with a long career in public health, I was amazed by her fulfilling career development and touched by her love for the profession. I quickly realized that I had an incomplete view of the depth and scope of the nursing profession. In fact, nursing was exactly the kind of career I was looking for; A role enabling me to take on various positions across diverse settings, continue lifelong learning, and work alongside families and interprofessional teams in a holistic manner. Since starting my Master’s in Nursing, I’ve really enjoyed discovering the many facets of nursing from clinical practice, mentorship, education, leadership, policy and research. Along the way, I’ve met some exceptional leaders who have inspired me with their love of learning, their creativity, their willingness to innovate and their dedication to providing person-centred care. I aspire to be a nurse just like them.
