TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research
Nursing has always had a special place in my heart. For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to be a nurse, and have long been fascinated by the many different ways to “be a nurse”. Aspects of both clinical bedside nursing and nursing research captured my attention early on in my education, and I have sought to bring both together as I progress through my nursing journey.
My entire bedside nursing career has been in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I have loved providing care for infants and families in the NICU. Without a doubt, this is my nursing passion and I know that my career moving forward will aim to support the health and wellbeing of families. It was also clear from my experience that there are gaps in the care we provide in the NICU. Of particular interest, I saw much room for improvement in the way care is provided for families with 2SLGBTQIA+ parents.
Realizing this, I decided to pursue my Master of Nursing (MN) to develop my skills as a nurse researcher to study these gaps in bedside care. Currently, I am an MN student at the University of Manitoba. My proposed thesis will look to understand the care experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ parents who have had an infant in the NICU.
I am incredibly thankful to receive the Tylenol Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research Scholarship, which will provide immense support as I continue my MN program.
