Northern Award
As a First Nations women currently studying to be a Registered Nurse at the University of Alberta, I am very proud on how far I have come and grown in the last four years of my degree. Thus far, my experience in nursing has allowed me to explore and challenge myself on a daily basis. I look back on my journey with such gratitude, especially with the help of CNF I would not have been able to thrive in academia. I am still striving to incorporate as much traditional knowledge into my practice through my connections with elders and my community to create a balance of western and traditional practice.
When I began my journey in nursing, one of my aspirations was to work alongside First Nations, Inuit and Metis populations. For my 4th year final practicum I pursued a clinical placement with Health Canada, First Nations, Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB) where I will be working with Enoch Cree Nation starting this October for the next 3 months. I could not be more happy to start on this new path and to provide the best culturally competent care to my future patients and communities.
Lastly, this award from CNF has allowed me to continue my studies and get one more year closer to my goal of being a Registered Nurse. Now that I am in my final year and can see the light at the end of the tunnel, I can’t say enough how grateful I am for the support CNF provides to not only me, but also every student who they support. Thank you and here’s to another successful school year everyone!
