John J. Vanderlee Award for Male Nursing Students
Currently, I am entering my second year of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Trinity Western University. My inspiration for starting my education to become a registered nurse came from my childhood experiences in emergency rooms. Growing up with undiagnosed Celiac Disease, I spent much time in hospitals with nurses who provided necessary care as well as comfort. For my future, I hope to be able to give back to my community in the same way as those nurses. In a team environment, I look forward to working with others to support the needs of patients and their recovery journeys.
As someone who grew up in remote British Columbian towns, I plan to work as an RN in small communities post-graduation. Additionally, I am considering specializing in Emergency Room Nursing or even getting my Master of Science in Nursing. That is why I am excited to enter my second year of nursing as I will begin my clinical rotations and learn more about different specializations in nursing.
I am honoured to be selected for the John J. Vanderlee Award and am overjoyed to be a Canadian Nurses Foundation Scholar! Thank you very much to the Canadian Nurses Foundation for providing this opportunity and supporting my education.
