CeraVe Skincare Scholarships for Diversity and Equity
Hi, my name is Ziad Zahoui, and I aspire to become a nurse because of my passion for caring for others and positively impacting people’s lives. As a Brazilian-Lebanese immigrant in Canada, I am passionate about improving the health of vulnerable populations across the globe. By taking a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Honors) at the University of Alberta, I can deepen my understanding of healthcare inequalities and publish papers advocating for the need for change within our healthcare system.
My desire to become a nurse goes beyond academic achievements. Working with patients in various settings within the community and the hospital allows me to provide first-hand care and apply my skills and research in real-world situations.
Becoming a nurse has been a lifelong journey I continue to expand and build upon. Being an active volunteer, I work first-hand in facilitating programs and services for underrepresented members of my communities. As a volunteer, I can expand my nursing scope to improve youth’s physical, mental and academic health through mentorship and afterschool programs, such as Start2Finish Reading & Running Program, Big Brother Big Sister, and the WUSC student refugee program.
My journey toward becoming a nurse stems from my eagerness to help others, advocate for equitable healthcare access, and contribute to advancing healthcare practices. I am excited to use my experience and background to promote health and well-being for all as I embark on a career as a nurse.
