John Vanderlee Award
Nursing is considered as the top trusted profession across many countries and for good reason. As I learn more in school and experience more in my clinical rotations, my understanding and appreciation for nurses grows. Nursing is a noble profession which is seen from a nurse’s competence in knowledge and skills to their compassion and caring character towards patients.
I am in nursing because I believe in both of these aspects of nursing: that I as a health care professional should be competent while being able to care for my patient as a whole. Since starting my BN degree at Mount Royal University in Calgary, I developed a greater passion for medicine and for patient care. My future aspirations in health care are to serve as part of a disaster relief team, one day pursue graduate school, become a leading expert in the field, and to be involved in the politics that shape our health care.
I am beyond blessed to have the opportunity to receive the support of the Canadian Nurses Foundation and their donors. In receiving the John Vanderlee Award, I am able to attend more to my studies, and less on the financial burden that accompanies them.
