Nightingale Award
Before entering the UBC accelerated registered nursing program I lived in Ucluelet, a small town on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. There, I experienced and witnessed the hardships that accompany rural living. At the health coalition table where I contributed as a youth counsellor and program coordinator, the knowledge and input of the nurses in advancing regional issues greatly humbled me. My desire to pursue a career in nursing stems from those conversations and a desire to work within a profession that values the social determinants of health when approaching patient care.
At UBC, I act as an Associate Delegate for the Canadian Nursing Student’s Association and contribute as a writer and coordinator of a blog entitled “Community Nursing Matters.” Upon graduation I hope to become a remote certified registered nurse and continue advocacy work by pursuing graduate education in leadership, policy and ethics.
The Nightingale Award is an honour to receive and I would like to express my gratitude to the Canadian Nurses Foundation for their support!
