For a long time I was torn on what I wanted to do for a career. I worked at Safeway as a cashier for nine years and the thing I loved most about my job was interacting with people all day.  I knew that I wanted to go to school eventually but I had so many ideas as to which career I would choose, that it took me a few years to decide the right fit for me.

It wasn’t until I met a group of nursing students at a daycare centre I was volunteering at that I knew nursing was the choice for me. The students told me so much about the nursing field, their experiences, as well as all the different areas your career can take you.  I knew my love for people and my caring personality would make me a good fit in becoming a nurse.

One thing that stood out to me when speaking with the students was about rural nursing. I have a passion for rural nursing since my family and ancestors originate from Prince Rupert and Haida Gwaii, both rural communities in B.C.  My goal upon graduation is to become a rural nurse and give back to the community I originate from.  Over the years I have seen grandparents and other relatives cared for in the hospitals of Northern B.C, and the nursing staff has made hard times so much brighter.  I knew I wouldn’t want anything more than to be a part of that!

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
