Beverly and John Carl Award

I became a nurse because I have always wanted to help others. From a young age, I witnessed nurses’ compassionate care to some of my family members, which left an impression on me. The ability of nurses to not only administer medical treatment but also to comfort and advocate for patients inspired me. I volunteered as a first responder when I was young, which also contributed to my interest in nursing as this volunteer work gave me the opportunity to provide care and comfort to people in emergency situations. I became more interested in preventative medicine, preserving health and health education, all of which I knew I could engage in as a nurse. As I embarked on my nursing education, I enjoyed being able to positively impact someone’s life during vulnerable moments. Nursing has allowed me to develop strong therapeutic relationships with patients and their families. It has not only allowed me to provide medical care but also allowed me to provide health education and moments of comfort to patients and their families. The dynamic, challenging nature and ever-changing evidence of the profession continuously motivate me to learn and grow, keeping me engaged and passionate about my work. Becoming a nurse was more than a career choice; it was a calling to care for others with compassion, respect, and dedication.
