Extendicare Nurse Practitioner Award
My name is Mohamed El Hussein, I am a nurse educator at Mount Royal University (MRU), and currently enrolled in the NP program at the University of Calgary. I am recognized as a strong student advocate and regularly receives strong student evaluations. I was awarded the distinguished faculty award for teaching Excellence at MRU in 2014 and nominated for several other teaching awards.
At a national and international level my research articles have been published in high impact international journals. One of my articles published in 2014 has been cited around 90 times so far. I have initiated several innovative teaching approaches that have contributed immensely to the critical thinking, analytical and clinical skills of nursing students. These innovations have improved the quality of care provided by nurses who have graduated from the nursing program at MRU; and have improved the quality of care and health of Albertans and beyond. The work was highlighted in the highly respected Journal of Nursing Education and Nursing Education perspectives and speaks to its potential impact. I am very self-motivated and eager to advance myself and others. I also volunteered with the YMCA to fundraise for women with domestic abuse (Walking a mile in her shoes). Further I volunteered at the shelter downtown (Calgary) to distribute food for the homeless.
