CINA/CNF Indigenous Award

My name is Lexy Tessier, I am a third-year nursing student and am a citizen of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan. I grew up in a family of five on a ranch near Trossachs Saskatchewan. Both of my parents are members of the local farming community raising cattle and sowing crops. My journey towards nursing all started in the small town of Pangman where I worked as a care aid at the now closed-down local care home. After I found my passion for healthcare I pursued a certificate for primary care paramedicine. After working as a paramedic, I decided to advance my education and pursue a degree in nursing. I continue to work as a paramedic and once I have finished my degree I would like to eventually work in the emergency room or ICU as a registered nurse. I chose to pursue a career in nursing because I have always enjoyed learning, researching, and practicing new skills and abilities. I also love the fast-paced environment of healthcare. I rarely find myself bored when I am in my clinical practice. I also enjoy helping those in need and find it rewarding when I can make someone’s day better by treating people with compassion and respect. This award will aid me in my studies and I am very thankful for this amazing opportunity!
