Award Recipient

Judah Chepil

CNSA BIPOC Award

My name is Judah Chepil, and I am a twenty-one-year-old queer Latino from rural Manitoba. Growing up in a marginalized community, I have faced challenges to gain recognition from a young age. Leveraging my academic talents, I now proudly represent both the 2SLGBTQIA+ and Hispanic communities in the College of Nursing at the University of Manitoba.

My passion for nursing stems from my rural background. At the age of 16, I began my journey in healthcare by working in support services at my local personal care home in Springfield, Manitoba. Observing the dedication of nurses and health care aides intrigued me in the career of nursing. Upon high school graduation, I became a health care aide allowing me to provide direct patient centered care to residents. My deep love for health sciences, human physiology, and my commitment to serving vulnerable populations solidified my decision to pursue a career in nursing.

When I am not studying or working as an undergraduate nurse, you can find me volunteering in various leadership roles. Whether it’s the president of our Nursing Students Association at the University of Manitoba or 4-H Manitoba planning committees, I love working with others! Outside of nursing I enjoy traveling around the world to experience various cultures from the United Arab Emirates to Japan! You can often find me connecting with nature or spending time with my family and friends.
