Melvin Kellie Award
As a young child, I spent some time at the Stollery Children’s Hospital and quickly found my calling. I have always wanted to pursue nursing to help others in need and make a difference in their quality of life. I began my Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at MacEwan University and learned of my passion for acute and emergency care. My combined passion for emergency nursing and end of life care allows me to advocate for patient needs, provide symptom management, and involve allied health members to make the emergency department less chaotic for the patient and their family. Throughout my undergraduate nursing degree, my experience working in the emergency department and adult palliative units, I have been so fortunate to provide comfort care to many patients and give them the quality of life that they deserve. I feel that providing high quality palliative and end of life care can have a lasting impact on the grief and loss felt by loved ones.
As I embark on my journey through Masters in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner graduate studies at the University of Alberta, I look forward to pursuing research and learning opportunities and to continue creating a lasting impact in one of life’s most uncertain moments.
