Deva Braaten

CNSA Environmental Award

In the fall of 2017, I was accepted as a nursing student to North Island College in BC to pursue my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN).  I wish to be an RN for many reasons, most of all because my passion is to help people be healthy, their most vibrant selves, and achieve their individual health goals.  I am highly motivated to continue to develop and apply my skills to help others.  Learning about science and the human body has always fascinated and engaged me.  The decision to become an RN is a natural expression of these things which I have always been drawn to.

I love working with people and have always enjoyed sharing with others as well as learning from them.  My experiences as a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Holistic Doula have shown me that I am most passionate about caring for mothers, children and families.  Becoming an RN will enable me to provide care for a broader spectrum of people from diverse social, economic and cultural backgrounds within the medical system.

Having completed year one of my four-year Bachelors of Science and Nursing degree I am confident that I have chosen to pursue the right carer and I am very excited to for the next three years of my training.  I believe that becoming a nurse would challenge me, give me many useful skills and life lessons, and allow me to contribute in a meaningful way to the world in which I live.

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
