CNF AWard
I am a first year student in the second-entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at the University of Toronto. My motivation for working in health care stems from childhood experiences moving between North America, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa, which informed my understanding of the crucial importance of universal health coverage and strong primary care systems.
Guided by my belief in health as a human right and by my desire to influence systems-level change, I spent the first few years of my career working as a research project coordinator at the SickKids Centre for Global Child Health and then as a program coordinator at Public Health Ontario. In these roles I was privileged to work with talented nurses who are shaping health care around the world and was inspired to return to school for my BScN.
I am excited to embark on a career in community health nursing — to be able to support the immediate health needs of individuals and communities while also working to address systemic barriers to access and continuity of care.
