Sonia Bouchard

CNSA Bilingualism Award

I decided I wanted to pursue a career in nursing because it perfectly combines my passion for health sciences with my love for interacting with, and caring for people.  It also provides lifelong learning opportunities and a fast-paced environment which is perfect for a high energy individual like myself.

This fall, I will be entering the final year of my BScN in the French stream at the University of Ottawa and I can confidently say that I have chosen the right path.  Through my experiences in the classroom and in clinical rotations, along with my involvement in CNSA, my appreciation for nurses has grown immensely over the past three years.  Learning and working in the bilingual environment of Ottawa’s hospitals, it feels great to put French-speaking patients at ease by speaking to them in their own language.

Nursing is a challenging, rewarding, dynamic and evolving profession and I look forward to all the opportunities that are to come.  I am not yet certain where I want to work, however, critical care nursing and pediatric nursing are areas I hope to explore.  My long term goal is to become a nurse practitioner and to stay active in the nursing community.

I would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation for their generosity and support!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
