I am a student of the Master of Science in Nursing program at McMaster University, and a graduate of the Mohawk/McMaster collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. Currently I work as a research assistant in the School of Nursing, and as a school nurse.
I became a nurse because I am passionate about caring for people, and about the sciences. When I was a teenager, I struggled with a mental illness. What made a difference to me was the people who showed a genuine interest in my well-being, listened, and cared about what I had to say. There were nurses who remembered me, comforted me, and reminded me that I was never alone.
I believe that as nurses we are given a very humbling opportunity – we are allowed to see some of the most vulnerable moments in peoples lives. We take each of these moments and use what we know about health, illness, medicine, and our patient, and give everything we can to comfort and support them. I care so deeply for each of my patients as if they were my own family. It is an honor to help those who are in need of health care. Nurses have been there for us from the day we were born to the day our lives will end. They are our biggest and number one fans. They have been cheering us on along the way, and it is incredible to be a part of this amazing profession.
