TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research
My name is Latitia Pelley-George and I am a first-generation undergraduate degree holder and a Registered Nurse. I went into nursing because I like taking care and helping people. I always grew up with a strong healthcare and caregiver influence in my life. I had two great-grandparents who lived with my family during my childhood at different times. This had a huge impact on my life. I was fortunate enough to graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Dalhousie University in 2019 and become a role model for other minority students. Growing up as an African Nova Scotian woman in a small, majority white, catholic town had its challenges with racism and discrimination. I use these experiences to help motivate me to keep bettering myself in life and empower other minorities as well. I keep advancing myself through my nursing career as I started on an inpatient medical floor when I first graduated with my RN. I moved to the Emergency Department and then to the Intensive Care Unit. I am currently in the Master of Adult Education in Health program at St Francis Xavier University intending to be in an educator position to help empower minority students at the entry point to nursing.
