TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research
Perseverance, teamwork, and compassion are a few words that come to mind when I think of the nursing profession. My interest in healthcare first began as a young child due to the illness of an immediate family member. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the fast-paced environment, the knowledge, skills, empathy, and support from the healthcare team during this difficult time resonated with me.
Although at a young age, this unexpected illness motivated me to pursue a career in healthcare where I can “make a difference in others’ lives.” This goal has guided my post-secondary educational journey, from completing an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto to currently entering my second year of the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program at the University of Toronto, Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing. Through this program, I have had the opportunity to gain meaningful healthcare experience and collaborate with interprofessional health teams to provide patient-centred and family-centred care in clinical settings. Through these experiences, I have understood the importance of acknowledging one’s perspective, as everyone has a “story” that is shaped by their life experiences.
As I continue this next part of my journey and beyond, I look forward to engaging in nursing practice and collaborating with health professionals to address health inequities and positively impact individuals and communities. I am honoured to be a CNF Scholar, and I would like to thank the Canadian Nurses Foundation for being a recipient of this award.
