Beverley & John Carl Scholarship

I would like to start by expressing my deepest gratitude towards John Carl and his beloved late wife, Beverley Carl, for this award and honor. Their generosity is paving a legacy of support for future generations of Nurse Practitioners.

Since I was a child, I have always had a thirst for knowledge. It has been my life-long goal to do more, learn more, and achieve more in order to be the best possible version of myself. That being said, I have been lucky enough to find my passion within a profession that embodies growth, innovation, and positive change. Being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) encompasses my essence as a being. I have learned that I am happiest when helping others and am fortunate to have found a career that balances the science of medicine with the art of caring.

As a registered nurse, I worked at the forefront of primary care within one of the busiest emergency departments in Western Canada. This experience exposed the congestion our ERs face and the dire need for more primary care providers. I have studied extremely hard during my Master’s degree at UBC to ensure I am able to provide optimal care for those in need. I whole-heartedly believe that NPs can lead a healthcare reform to address the complex needs of our population. As an NP, I aspire to work as a member of an inter-disciplinary team that is able to provide holistic care to unattached patients. By enhancing access to care, the ultimate goal is to improve the overall health of our community.
