Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland & Labrador Education and Research Trust 25th Anniversary Scholarship
I grew up in a healthy energetic family with parents who continue to lead by example. As a teenager, I was a member of Canada’s Olympic Swim Team and represented my country in countless competitions throughout the world. I began to see how an active lifestyle provides many health benefits and contributes to overall physical and mental wellness. From there I decided to pursue a career in nursing. Once I graduated, I worked throughout Canada—largely in the area of labor and birth. I cared for countless women and their families. I realized early on, what a privilege it is to be present and provide supportive care during this emotional life event. This awareness triggered in me a desire to further my nursing education and obtain Bachelor and Master degrees of Nursing from University of Victoria and University of British Columbia respectively. I currently teach in the Faculty of Nursing at Memorial University in Newfoundland. Four years ago, I began my PhD (Nursing) program with a focus on the social organization of healthcare, nursing knowledge and nurses’ work.
