Dr. Kathryn J Hannah Nursing Informatics Scholarship
I was initially drawn to nursing because it is such a diverse profession, with seemingly endless possibilities of what being a nurse could look like. In my career to date, I’ve had a wide variety of amazing experiences in clinical practice, education, and patient safety, and I have always had a keen interest in trying to make health care better for patients and providers. I never imagined that I would pursue a PhD, but I found my passion in nursing informatics, where leveraging health information technology to improve care is central. I am now a doctoral candidate at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing and my dissertation research focuses on the unintended consequences of technology, where harm inadvertently occurs. I am pleased to be partnering with Vancouver Coastal Health as an embedded researcher, and working alongside their highly skilled Community Clinical Informatics team to study the impact of health technologies on patient safety. I am truly honoured to receive this award and I am very grateful to the Canadian Nurses Foundation and the Dr. Kathryn J. Hannah Nursing Informatics scholarship award committee.
