Alexander Bridgeman

CINA/CNF Indigenous Award

Becoming a nurse was deeply rooted in my desire to help others and make a tangible difference, particularly within inner-city hospitals serving marginalized populations. From a young age, I was inspired by the compassionate care provided by nurses who treated my family members. Their empathy, resilience, and dedication left a lasting impression on me.

As a Métis man, working with Indigenous peoples makes perfect sense to me. I understand the unique health challenges and cultural nuances that Indigenous communities face, and I am passionate about addressing these disparities. By focusing my efforts on this community, I aim to ensure that Indigenous individuals receive culturally competent and respectful care. This commitment stems from my belief in social justice and my desire to advocate for those who have historically been underserved.

I am particularly interested in specializing in palliative and oncology care. These fields allow me to support patients and their families through some of the most challenging times in their lives. Providing compassionate end-of-life care and helping patients navigate their cancer journeys requires a unique blend of medical expertise and emotional sensitivity, both of which I am committed to developing.

The intrinsic rewards of nursing appealed to my compassionate nature. Nursing provides a unique blend of medical knowledge and personal connection, allowing me to offer both scientific and emotional support to patients.

Nursing is not just a job for me; it is a vocation that aligns with my values and aspirations, allowing me to contribute positively to society every day.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
