Merck Canada Nursing Scholarship
I became an oncology nurse because, from a young age, I realized that cancer touches the lives of nearly every human being, and I wanted to do my part to alleviate suffering and care for the most vulnerable in our society.
Since becoming a nurse in 2018, I have dedicated my career to working with cancer patients and their families. As a clinical nurse specialist, I provide psychological care to adults with cancer, helping them navigate their difficult journeys with empathy and evidence-based practices. My role within the broader healthcare team allows me to ensure that patients and their loved ones receive comprehensive, human-centered cancer care.
My passion for research led me to explore the patient experience and supportive care needs of those living with life-threatening cancers, particularly advanced blood cancers. This work is crucial for improving the current care we provide by developing a deeper understanding of the impact of these unique cancers on individuals’ lives and what they need most during this challenging time.
Receiving the scholarship from the Canadian Nurses Foundation and Merck Canada is a tremendous honor. I am currently a PhD candidate entering the fourth year of my doctoral studies in nursing at the University of Toronto. This award will enable me to dedicate more time and effort to my ongoing research and will be a catalyst for completing my work.
My commitment to nursing excellence is unwavering, and I aspire to continue growing as a leader and advocate for the highest quality nursing practice, education, and research.
