ARNM Centennial Award
My name is Ashley Hebert, I am a Master of Nursing student at the University of Manitoba. I am honored to have been selected for the ARNM Centennial Award through the Canadian Nurses Foundation. When I embarked in the nursing profession 10 years ago, I was motivated by the desire to help people in their times of need. Early on, I began to realize the impact I could have on my patients and their families through person-centered nursing care. After 2 years of working in acute medicine, I made the shift toward critical care and worked in various ICU settings for the following 6 years. Critical care nursing was very rewarding work for me, caring for patients in perhaps their most vulnerable time of need and supporting families through uncertain and often difficult times. Acute and critical care nursing will always be near to my heart, although I’ve recently transitioned my nursing career toward academia and research by pursuing graduate studies and accepting a teaching role. The many memorable experiences I’ve had throughout my career have fueled my passion for advancing the nursing profession and improving patient care. I hope to continue making an impact on nursing practice through education and research for years to come. I became a nurse to help people, but I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve had through nursing to care for others on a human level, and to learn about myself in the process.
