John J. Vanderlee Award for Male Nursing Students
Throughout my life I have always loved working with people and I intentionally sought out positions where I could interact with others continually throughout the day. After dealing with addictions in my family, losing two very close friends and a 1200km hike across the Canadian Rockies over 52 days while raising money for the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention I discovered my calling of becoming a nurse. I found that what I truly love is beyond just interacting with people but motivating, educating and truly helping others in times of crisis and hardship. It is for these reasons I decided to become a nurse. As a CNF scholar I have leapt right into the healthcare field and have taken every opportunity possible to expand my knowledge and challenge myself to become the best person I can while striving towards my title of an RN. I have been the Official Delegate of our school’s chapter of the CNSA, taken part-time jobs working in healthcare to broaden my scope, and presented at our schools extra-curriculars around contentious but progressive nursing roles and the future of healthcare. This scholarship will help me continue the work I have been doing and inspires me to become the best nurse possible.
