Award Recipient

Avery LeBleu

Anita George Award

Dear whomever may read this,

My name is Avery LeBleu. I grew up in Winnipeg, MB but moved to Kelowna to pursue
my Bachelor of Nursing at the University of British Columbia Okanagan campus. I am currently
entering my second year of nursing. Over the years, I have had to deal with various health issues
which exposed me to many health care professionals. There was one instance at the Emergency
Room that made me realize I wanted to become a nurse. I was given some really difficult news
and was very emotional and vulnerable. The nurse that was assigned to me was supportive,
compassionate, and patient. She took the time to answer all my questions and ensure I was okay.
She had such an amazing impact on me that I knew at that moment I wanted to make that same
impact on others. In my first year of nursing, I was able to do my clinical in a personal care home
and this past summer I worked as a porter in a local hospital in Winnipeg, I was exposed to all
aspects of the Hospital. I was able to make an impact on individuals by just listening to them in
their time of need regardless of the short time I was with them. My overall goal as a nurse is to
travel to Northern communities. Thank you for selecting me for the the Anita George Award.
