Baitha Oguariri

CNF Bursary for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Hi, I’m Baitha Olachi Oguariri, a final-year nursing student with a deep love for caring for others. My healthcare journey began long before I entered nursing school. I previously worked in eye care, providing exams and treatments in underserved communities in Nigeria. That experience opened my eyes to the power of helping people feel seen, heard, and cared for, especially when resources are limited. It sparked something in me, and I knew I wanted to do more.

I chose to become a nurse because it lets me be there for people in a real and hands-on way. It’s not just about medical tasks; it’s about showing up with kindness and making sure people don’t feel alone during some of the most challenging or joyful moments of their lives. Nursing is a beautiful mix of science and heart, and that’s what drew me in.

As a mom, I have a special interest in maternity and family care. I’m currently completing my preceptorship in that area, and it feels like a perfect fit.

One of the proudest moments in my journey so far was receiving a Bravo card at the hospital where I work, recognizing me for my kindness toward patients. Moments like that remind me why I do this work. I want every person I care for to feel seen, safe, and valued. My goal is to be the kind of nurse who’s remembered not just for skill, but for heart.

Becoming a CNF Scholar is more than an award—it’s a reminder that the work we do as nurses matters. It celebrates the dedication, long hours, and heart we pour into learning, serving, and growing in this profession. I’m motivated more than ever to continue advocating for health equity and accessible care.

Thank you to the Canadian Nurses Foundation for this incredible support. I will carry this honor with pride and continue striving to make a difference.
