I have known that I wanted to work in health care since I was a child, however after graduating from my first undergraduate degree I was unsure of what career to pursue. That changed after working in Long-Term Care for three years as a nursing clerk/receptionist; I saw first hand the impact of nurses. Furthermore, the vast opportunities that nursing offers was truly appealing to me, as someone who wishes to eventually transition to more managerial/administrative roles in the future. Nursing provides the perfect balance of clinical and administrative work. Accordingly, I decided to apply to the University of Toronto’s Accelerated BScN program and have enjoyed the amazing clinical placements I have had across the many world-class hospitals in Toronto. It has been quite the challenge to balance a part time job, student council responsibilities, and accelerated nursing studies but it has also been extremely rewarding. The best part of my nursing experience, so far, has been seeing the effects of my care actually making improvements for my clients, even as a fledgling nursing student, and having patients and family thank me for my work and telling me that I will be great nurse one day.
