Chanelle Lyon

CNSA 2SLGBTQ+ Award

My name is Chanelle Lyon and I am currently in my final semester of psychiatric nursing at
Macewan University, Ponoka campus. As I approach the completion of this program, I am able
to reflect upon what led me to this path. I became a licensed practical nurse 6 years ago and
have enjoyed the opportunities and experiences this career has provided. Nursing is truly a
fulfilling profession. I have been able to work throughout central Alberta and on the coast of
British Columbia, meeting and caring for diverse populations from all walks of life. For the
duration of my career I’ve had the chance to work in acute care, community care, complex
neuro and respiratory, and psychiatry. I admire the holistic approach to care that psychiatric
nursing provides. I myself have experienced the great lengths that psychiatric nursing reaches,
providing and fostering the idea of hope. Thankfully, I have strong mentors that create positive
learning experiences and environments (shout out to Professor Ken Kustiak & Martha Braun). I
feel blessed and honoured to be a Canadian Nurses Foundation scholar. Thank you so much
for this wonderful opportunity!! It is well received and appreciated.

This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
