Christina Phan

CIBC Nursing Bursary

Why I became a nurse is rooted in my love of learning, curiosity, compassion, and a deep
desire to help others. From a young age, I was fascinated by how the human body works and
what it takes to care for people during their most vulnerable moments. As I’ve grown, my
passion for learning has only strengthened, and I realized I didn’t just want to study this, I
wanted to apply that knowledge in a way that truly helps others.

What I love most about nursing is the chance to provide compassionate care. There’s
something fulfilling about seeing a patient feel more at ease, smile again, or regain strength,
knowing I had a hand in helping them get there! Whether it’s listening, advocating, or just being
present, I’ve learned that small acts of care can make a big difference. I also appreciate that
nursing is a career of lifelong learning. There’s always something new to learn, whether it’s a
clinical skill, a medication, or a different way to connect with patients. That constant learning is
something I really enjoy.

In my free time, I love to go on walks, try out new cafes (I’m a huge matcha fan!), and
binge watch Korean dramas! I’m excited to keep growing both personally and professionally in
this rewarding field, knowing every day is an opportunity to make a positive impact. Receiving
this scholarship from CNF will allow me to dedicate more time and energy to my studies and
brings me closer to my dream of becoming a confident nurse!

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
