The Impact of Prolonged PPE Use
Kim LeBlanc, CNF past award recipient, is conducting a study funded by CNF to better understand the risks and impact of prolonged PPE use, especially facial masks, on nurses’ skin.
“Despite numerous personal and media reports by healthcare professionals of PPE-related skin injuries, there exists limited published evidence to support the prevention of these wounds.”
–Kimberly LeBlanc PhD, RN, NSWOC, WOCC (C), FCAN
“CNF is very pleased to support research that can reduce the risk to nurses at the front lines of this pandemic in a year where their health and protection is paramount,” says Christine Rieck Buckley, CNF CEO.
You are invited to participate in a brief survey studying the Impact of PPE use on Canadian Healthcare Professionals. The survey should not take more than 15 minutes to complete. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of PPE use on Canadian Healthcare Professionals.

Development and Sharing of Best Practices for Future Pandemics
Supported by CNF’s new COVID-19 Fund for Nurses, nursing leaders, Denise Bryant-Lukosius and Erin Ziegler, are engaging national and international stakeholders to examine advanced practice nursing innovations developed in response to COVID-19.
“The funding providing by CNF enabled us to get this time-sensitive project up and running very quickly. The global response to participate in this project has been simply outstanding and reinforces the critical need for this work”. –Denise Bryant-Lukosius, RN PhD
“Advanced practice nurses have been at the forefront of healthcare system responses to the COVID-19 pandemic around the world. Understanding how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected advanced practice nurses, their professional practice and the workforce from a global perspective is key to developing implementing strategies to better support advanced practice nurses and to optimize their utilization.”
