Dalaina Orr

WeRPN Award for Student Excellence

I’m embarking on a new chapter in my 40s as I return to school to pursue a career in nursing. This decision comes from a passion to help others and address the pressing shortage of healthcare professionals in my northern community.

My inspiration to become a nurse was started through my own experiences as a patient many years ago. During a significant hospital stay, I was deeply moved by the exceptional care and compassion shown by the nursing staff. Their dedication made a world of difference to me and sparked my desire to provide that same level of care and support to others. This combined with experiences I have had working within my community, has led me to the decision that nursing would be great career opportunity.

I’ve seen firsthand the challenges our local healthcare system and community faces, and I am determined to be part of the solution. By becoming a nurse, I hope to contribute to alleviating some of the pressures on our healthcare system and offer the kind of compassionate care that made such a difference in my own life.

Returning to school and pursuing this new career path at this stage in my life has been both a challenging and rewarding experience. I am committed to bringing my life experience, determination, and heartfelt dedication into this field.
