Louise Bunce

CNSA Clinical Excellence Award

I was raised in Calgary, Alberta with a deep passion for community involvement and health care. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a BSc and a fulfilling 4 years playing Varsity basketball and running heptathlon, I was unsure of which direction to turn next. I gained a lot of inspiration from my grandmother, who was a Registered Nurse in British Columbia for over 30 years. We are very similar people, and I knew the joy and passion she had for helping people as a nurse would also be very fulfilling to me.

My choice was solidified as I worked for a year in administration for a home care company. I enjoyed the work but craved more patient interaction and direct impact. Luckily, I was accepted at the University of British Columbia in the accelerated nursing program. I have been enthralled by my studies so far and I know I made the right choice in nursing by how happy I am seeing the firsthand impact I am able to make for my patients during practicum. After graduation, I am looking forward to pursuing a career in emergency nursing and hopefully rural and community nursing in the future.
