Jenica Bouliane

CNSA Diversability/Disability Award

My name is Jen Bouliane a BSN student at Selkirk College. As a parent balancing the demands of nursing school with the responsibilities of raising a 2-year-old, my journey has been challenging. Navigating a heavy workload and managing clinical rotations while trying to be as present as possible for the well-being of my family has presented unique challenges that have shaped me as both a student and a parent. The emotional toll of balancing academics with parenthood cannot be understated. Every moment spent studying is a moment away from my son. I have missed many firsts, like his first steps, first words, and first birthday due to my time in the program. These are moments I will never get back. However, this deep sense of mom guilt only reinforced my determination and drive to excel academically while remaining dedicated to my role as a parent. Despite the obstacles, my passion for nursing and my commitment to providing a better future for my son serves as my driving force and constant motivator. Awards such as these allow me to spend more time at home with my son and remove some of the financial strain on my family; for that, I am incredibly grateful to all the donors.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
