Erin Hogg Northern Nursing Award
Hi there! My name is Jordan Braun, I’m a nursing student going into my 4th year at the University of Manitoba. I love to hike, camp, swim and run! My favourite trail to go to is the Mantario (highly recommend it if you have never been before!). I decided to go into nursing at some point in my last year of high school. At the time, I struggled to find an area that I wanted to devote a large chunk of my life to, either studying about or working in. I had an interest in biology and chemistry but I knew that I wouldn’t be content working in a lab, that I needed to work with people. So, I had the idea that if I couldn’t figure out a career that I wanted to do for myself, then I would start by doing my work for others and see where that led me. I knew that healthcare would be great for this and decided on nursing because I wanted more meaningful interactions with those I cared for. Still, I wasn’t too sure about my decision, so I planned to take a gap year to work and travel before going back to school. When the pandemic struck, I threw those plans out the window and decided to go ahead with my studies. And boy am I glad I did! I’m going to graduate at 22, and I’m excited to start my practice and make a real change in the world!
