Julianna Schell

CNSA Indigenous Award

My name is Julianna Schell, and I’m proud to be both a Health Care Assistant and a nursing student. I’ve always been someone who cares deeply about people and community, and nursing felt like the natural path to turn that care into action. What drew me in was the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives, whether by offering comfort, answering questions during uncertain times, or simply being present when someone needs support.

I’m Métis with roots in both Treaty 6 Territory and European settler ancestry, and my identity has played a big role in why I chose this path. I’ve seen firsthand how important culturally safe and respectful care is, especially in rural and Indigenous communities. That’s why I’m passionate about providing care that honors people’s traditions, stories, and strengths.

Before nursing school, I worked in assisted living and spent time organizing Métis community events focused on wellness and connection. Now, as I move forward in my training, I’m especially drawn to public health, outreach nursing, and supporting people who may be underserved or overlooked.

At the heart of it all, I became a nurse because I believe everyone deserves dignity, compassion, and someone in their corner. I’m honored to be that person.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
