CINA/CNF Indigenous Award
I am a licensed practical nurse living in northern Alberta, currently in my third year of the LPN-BN program through Athabasca University. My decision to become a nurse stemmed from a deep-rooted family history in nursing. My mother and two aunts, all dedicated nurses, have been my role models. This dedication to service became even more meaningful to me after I was hospitalized following a motor vehicle rollover at 16 years old. During my stay, I observed firsthand the skill, empathy, and dedication of the nursing staff on the pediatric unit. The way they not only attended to my physical needs but also provided emotional support left a lasting impression on me. Their ability to offer comfort and reassurance during such a traumatic time inspired me deeply. It was then that I realized my calling to help people and provide the same comfort and healing I experienced. With this inspiration, I aspire to become an emergency nurse, pursuing further education through the post LPN to BN program to achieve this goal. I am eager to embrace the challenges and rewards of emergency nursing, driven by a passion to make a difference in critical moments and to contribute to the well-being of those in need.
It is a great honour to receive the CINA/CNF Indigenous Award. I take immense pride in my Metis heritage and am truly appreciative of the opportunities this recognition will offer.
