My name is Kate Cushing and I’m heading into my 3rd year of the BScN program at Queen’s University. I’m 21 years old, and when I’m not at school I live with my parents in St. Catharine’s Ontario.
I haven’t always wanted to be a nurse. However, from the time I was young, I’ve had a heart for those struggling. Nursing has given me the opportunity to exercise compassion through mastery of my skills and interactions with patients, both big and small. I leave each day of placement feeling fulfilled knowing that I have helped somebody. This is how I know nursing is right for me, it gives me energy, purpose, and joy. I’m thankful to be a part of a profession that is not only a career, but a passion. As a CNF scholar, having financial support allows me to be more involved on campus, and seek out volunteer opportunities that will enhance my personal and professional growth. I am very much looking forward to my career as a nurse and what it has in store for me! The support provided from the CNF is something I am very thankful for.
