Katelyn MacLellan

CINA/CNF Indigenous Award

My name is Katelyn MacLellan, I am from Winnipeg Manitoba and am currently enrolled in the nursing program at Red River College. I decided to pursue nursing because I wanted a career that would allow me to help others. Growing up I always knew I wanted to do something in the healthcare field but being a doctor or a radiologist or anything else never felt like the right fit. I began volunteering at the Health Sciences Centre after high school and seeing the nurses interact with the patients answered all of the questions I had about what I wanted to do in my career. I loved the relationships the nurses built with the patients and the compassion they showed towards everyone involved. I did some research on nursing, applied for the RN program, and never looked back. The nursing program is definitely challenging but I see the value in what I am learning and constantly have the opportunity to apply my acquired knowledge in the healthcare setting. Seeing and experiencing the positive impact nurses have on patients reminds me that the work is meaningful and fulfilling. I am looking forward to building my nursing career and helping others as much as I can.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
