TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research
Nursing provides numerous opportunities to promote the health and well-being of individuals, families, and communities. I knew I wanted a career where I could make a difference in the lives of others; what was less clear was what path I would take to achieve this. Nurses are lifelong learners and advocates whose work impacts clinical care, education, research, and policy development; this, combined with my commitment to promoting social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, led me to the nursing profession. Nursing offers endless opportunities to care for others while working to achieve healthier futures by advocating for more equitable access to healthcare services. I am honoured to be a nurse and proud to be part of a profession that has such a profound impact on the lives of others.
My experiences in nursing have highlighted the numerous challenges individuals, families, and communities experience because of inequities in access to healthcare services. As a Master of Nursing Student at Athabasca University, my research explores the experiences of Registered Nurse Lactation Consultants related to maternal mental health. I hope further research and advocacy in this area will result in more equitable access to maternal mental health and infant feeding healthcare services.
I am incredibly grateful to have been selected as a recipient of the Canadian Nurses Foundation Tylenol ® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research Scholarship.
