TYLENOL® Fund to Advance Diversity in Nursing and Health Equity Research
My name is Kimia, and I am in my last year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at British Columbia Institute of Technology. As a child, I was fascinated with science and the scientific method, and I knew I wanted a career where I could apply my scientific knowledge everyday. I considered many healthcare careers, but it was only nursing that would allow me to be deeply engaged with others while being a skilled and knowledgeable clinician. One of my favorite parts about nursing is getting to learn about the stories of patient’s and families and exploring their unique perspectives. I also value the role of a nurse as an advocate – I am a person who identifies as a woman and a person of colour, and my lived experiences allow me to be intimately aware of the inequities that exist in our communities. Nursing affords me the opportunity to give voice to those who cannot speak up for themselves, and to inspire change whether it be a small or system-level change. As I embark on my journey as a Registered Nurse, I look forward to being a part of advancing social justice and creating a better Canada and global community for all of us.
