Johnson & Johnson Award
My name is Laine Becker and I am excited to be entering my final year of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree at the University of Northern BC. As a recipient of the CNF Johnson & Johnson Award I am truly honoured, and I consider it a great privilege to be placed amongst some of the finest nurses and nursing students that Canada has to offer.
By becoming a Registered Nurse I knew that I would embark on a lifelong journey full of unique learning experiences, endless opportunities and heightened potential for rewarding encounters. I have aspirations of working towards a critical care nursing focus; however, my practicum experiences and employments as a student nurse have allowed me to discover that I am comfortable in a number of areas.
Making the decision to leave a very high paying job in order to pursue a life of nursing did not come without its consequences. Raising two children alongside my loving wife, while paying for school at the same time, has been a financially dire situation. Attending my final year of schooling was very much hanging in the balance. Without the graciousness of CNF donors and contributors many eager and dedicated nurses may not be able to fully realize their dreams, myself included. My passion for nursing comes second only to my family and I now have the opportunity to continue my journey. I will forever be grateful to the donors for this amazing opportunity.
