CNSA Environmental Award

I am currently in my third term of five in the University of British Columbia’s accelerated nursing program. I knew I wanted to be a nurse when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and I felt a strong urge to help. At the time, volunteer programs in healthcare settings were put on pause, this led me to get my Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate, the Ontario equivalent to a Care Aid here in BC. As a PSW I was able to make a contribution to the healthcare system and this experienced solidified my love of working in the healthcare system. I had the opportunity to work in a long-term care home, on an inpatient surgical unit, and in the operating room of a level one trauma centre; all of which allowed me to explore different sides of nursing, further confirming that nursing was the path for me. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a Business minor at the University of Guelph in 2022. I have loved being back at school learning such applicable content. I moved from Toronto to Vancouver in August 2024 for the UBC program and have enjoyed exploring the city and surrounding areas. I love to hike, swim in the ocean, and have craft nights with friends. I believe that having a balanced life will make me a well-rounded nurse and ensure I can take the best care of my future patients.

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses.
