CNF Award
My name is Leah Sookhoo, and I am entering my second year of the Master of Nursing Science program at Queen’s University.
For me, becoming a nurse was not just a career choice; it was a decision that emerged from my lifelong connection with healthcare and my passion for making a difference. Nursing, to me, is more than just treating symptoms; it is about wholeheartedly connecting with patients, demonstrating empathy, and standing by them throughout their journey to recovery. My decision to become a nurse meant embracing a challenging road with tough classes, demanding clinicals, and countless late-night study sessions with friends. However, each obstacle was an opportunity for growth, and the lessons I learned about empathy and compassion are now the cornerstones of my practice.
Presently, as a postpartum RN, I have the privilege of being a part of the most special moments in new parents’ lives. The fulfillment I experience knowing I have touched lives and contributed to countless families’ health journeys is indescribable. Through my thesis work I want to extend this impact, and am committed to understanding the postpartum experiences of immigrant mothers, and advocating for their needs.
Being selected as a CNF Scholar is an incredible honor, and I am grateful to the kind-hearted donors who are supporting me in advancing my nursing journey. Their generosity is empowering me to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those under my care, and for that I am truly thankful.
