I first knew I wanted to be a nurse when I had my eldest daughter, Aurelia, in 2010. The care I received from the nurses was unforgettable—I wanted to offer that same support to other new moms and their babies. But I doubted myself. I didn’t think I had what it took, especially as a new mother. So, I became a nearly full-time stay-at-home mom, welcoming two more daughters—Aurora in 2012 and Aria in 2015—while helping my husband run our ranch for over a decade, all the while quietly holding that dream deep within my heart.

When my grandpa passed away in 2012, I was deeply involved in his care. In 2017, I lost both of my grandmothers and again found myself drawn to supporting them. Then came the Humboldt Broncos bus crash in 2018, and I felt an overwhelming desperation to help. That was the moment I knew I couldn’t ignore this calling any longer.

I applied to the Practical Nursing program and graduated in 2021 with distinction, top of my class. I’ve worked on a Medical-Surgical floor in my local hospital ever since. Now, I’m bridging to become a Registered Nurse through the University of Regina, set to graduate in 2026. I commute over 200 km each week for classes and clinicals, stay with family when I can, and work 24–36 hours as an LPN when I’m home.

I’m passionate about compassionate, competent care—and excited to keep serving my community as an RN.

Giving Tuesday has become a global movement for giving and marks the beginning of the giving season for your favourite causes. Thank you for joining Canadian Nurses Foundation today as we celebrate our 10th annual campaign. Double your gift today!

We know that helping nurses and nursing students is a team effort. More qualified nurses, more nurse-led research, more nurses and nursing students supported with mentoring and proactive mental health programs and training – that’s the outcome of your support. This leads to a stronger, more robust healthcare system for Canada.

Your support today, on Giving Tuesday, empowers us to set ambitious goals, strengthen our resources, and show that our collective generosity fuels the next generation of nurses. Let’s make this year’s Giving Tuesday our most impactful yet, proving that our collective kindness can create lasting change.
