Judy Hill Memorial Award

Hi everyone! I’m Manvir, and my journey into nursing began with a deeply personal experience – watching my mom battle cancer. Her strength and the compassionate care she received inspired me to become an oncology nurse, dedicated to supporting patients and families through their toughest moments.

Before becoming a registered nurse (RN), I started as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) and gained diverse experience. I spent time as a correctional nurse, where I learned invaluable lessons about mental health and substance use disorders. Working in Northern BC’s remote areas during the COVID-19 pandemic as a camp nurse taught me resilience and the importance of healthcare accessibility, especially in rural communities.

I volunteered at Menno Hospital, a senior’s care home, for nine years, where I saw firsthand the challenges and joys of geriatric nursing. My experience there fueled my passion for caring for elderly patients and advocating for their well-being.

Recently, I graduated as an RN, furthering my education to enhance my skills and impact as a healthcare professional. My journey has been shaped by diverse experiences, each teaching me valuable lessons in empathy, resilience, and the importance of holistic care.

I’m passionate about making a difference in people’s lives and believe in the power of compassionate nursing. Whether in oncology, geriatrics, or community health, I strive to provide patient-centered care that respects the dignity and individuality of each person I serve.
